What does the "s" in the fabric mean?

The "s" in the fabric represents the number of fabric counts, is a way of expressing the nature of textile yarn, we use the British yarn count (s) for example and calculation: the British yarn count refers to a pound (454 grams) of yarn, its length is 840 yards (about 0.9144 meters/yard), the fineness of the yarn is 1s. If the length of a pound of yarn is 10×840 yards, its fineness is 10s, and so on.‌

The higher the fineness value, the finer the yarn, so we can also understand the count as the thickness of the yarn unit, the higher the value, the finer the yarn.

What is the difference between 32s, 40s and 60s?

1. The fabric is different in cotton

32s and 40s are common carded cotton, 60s is combed cotton

Generally speaking, pure cotton yarn can be divided into two kinds of combed cotton and combed cotton. Combed cotton has less impurity content, less short fiber, and better fiber smoothness, which is generally used for medium and high-grade fabrics with more than 60 pieces. The short yarn that is left after combing, or the yarn that retains a large number of short fibers for impurity removal only, 32 pieces and 40 pieces are basically made of cotton yarn.

2. Feel the difference

32s, 40s fabric thick, 60s fabric light

The lower the fabric count, the thicker the yarn, and the thicker the fabric of the textile product. 60 yarns are delicate, the textile finished product is thinner than 40, the heat conductivity of the fabric is higher, and the contact will have a cool feeling. If you like to sleep under the comforter when the thick feeling, 32s, 40s fabric may be more suitable for you. If you are more interested in breathability and comfort, then 60 cotton cloth will be a good choice.

3. Different heating properties

If the skin delicacy is compared to fabric, 40 pieces is equivalent to 30+ human skin, and 60 pieces is equivalent to adolescent skin. 40 beds feel good compared to 32, but compared to 60, the upper body feels slightly rough, far less soft and comfortable than 60.

4. Fabric pilling performance is different

Whether the fabric is easy to pilling is closely related to the fiber strength, and the fiber length is also an important influencing factor. The longer the fiber, the less the number of ends connected between the textile yarn fiber and the fiber under the same length unit, the less the end of the surface of the fabric is exposed to friction, and it is not easy to pilling. Therefore, compared with 32 and 40 pieces of fabric, 60 pieces of fabric pilling rate is lower, and the fabric is more flat and comfortable.

5. Prices vary

60s>40s>32s

The higher the number, the higher the quality of the fabric, the higher the price will naturally be. Generally speaking, the price of four sets of 32s on the market is about 200 yuan, the price of 40s is about 300 yuan, and the price of 60s is generally about 400 yuan, because the textile process, printing and dyeing method and pattern design are different, the price will vary. However, in addition to business promotion reasons, lower than these prices, it is very likely that low bed products are posing as or non-pure cotton four-piece sets!
