Shanghai Home Expo | Bedding Selection Guide

2024-09-27 10:54:23

We've heard the saying: "It's better to buy the right mattress than the right bed, and better to buy the right bedding than the right mattress." This clearly illustrates the importance of bedding for quality sleep. However, with the wide array of bedding options on the market, including different brands, fabrics, sizes, and styles, how should we choose? An Expert have provided detailed advice on this matter at the Shanghai Home Expo

I. Size Matching

1. Matching Four-piece Set Sizes: When selecting a four-piece set, it's important to consider the width and height of the bed. Common bed sizes in the market include single, double, and queen, so before making a choice, it's essential to know the dimensions of your bed to ensure you purchase the right bedding set.

2. Matching Quilt Core and Duvet Cover: When buying a quilt core, ensure its size matches the quilt cover. If the core is too large, it may bunch up inside, while if it's too small, it won't fill properly. Therefore, selecting the right size core is crucial.

3. Matching Pillow Core Sizes: Pillow cores typically come in a standard size of 48*74cm, suitable for most pillowcases. When selecting a pillow core, consider the size of your pillowcase to determine the appropriate core size.

4. Matching Blanket and Duvet Sizes: It's recommended to choose a blanket size that matches the duvet cover size or is slightly larger to maintain overall harmony. Duvet sizes should match the bed sheet for a visually unified look.

II. Choosing the Right Material

1. Pure Cotton Bedding: Pure cotton bedding is popular for its softness, comfort, absorbency, and breathability, suitable for year-round use. Especially in hot summers, it can provide a cool sleeping experience. However, cotton wrinkles easily and requires frequent ironing. Long-staple cotton bedding offers the best breathability, skin-friendliness, and comfort, making it a preferred choice for most households.

2. Linen Bedding: Linen is a popular choice in summer due to its excellent breathability and moisture-wicking properties, providing a cool touch. However, linen bedding is relatively rough and not as soft as pure cotton or silk.

3. Silk Bedding: Silk bedding is considered a high-end material known for its smoothness and elasticity. However, silk bedding is expensive and delicate, requiring careful maintenance.

4. Polyester-Cotton Blend Bedding: Polyester-cotton blends combine the durability of polyester with the comfort of cotton, offering an affordable choice. These blends usually have good durability and are easy to care for.

5. Tencel Bedding: Tencel is a regenerated fiber known for its excellent moisture absorption, breathability, softness, and luxurious feel. It's also an eco-friendly material due to its minimal environmental impact during production.

III. Craftsmanship and Thread Count

The craftsmanship of bedding has a significant impact on overall quality. When selecting bedding, pay attention to the thread count, which refers to the fineness of the yarn. A higher thread count indicates finer yarn, which translates to higher demands on the cotton fibers.

Common thread counts for bedding include 40, 60, 80, and 100. Generally, choosing bedding with a 60 thread count is sufficient for most needs. Bedding with a 100 thread count or higher can have a silk-like sheen even if it's made of pure cotton, indicating good quality. However, the prices of such bedding also increase. When choosing bedding, it's not necessary to excessively pursue high thread counts. Some sellers may falsely label thread counts, even marking 40 thread count bedding as 100 thread count.

IV. Safety Standards

Bedding comes into direct contact with our bodies, so its safety standards are crucial. When selecting bedding, check the washing label, as legitimate bedding will indicate safety technology levels on this label. According to China's textile safety technical specifications, textiles are classified into three levels: Class A (baby and infant use), Class B (direct contact with skin), and Class C (no direct contact with skin).

When purchasing bedding, choose products with safety technology levels of Class B or above. If possible, opt for Class A bedding to ensure environmental friendliness and health during use.

These are the four steps for selecting and coordinating bedding. Hopefully, this guide will assist you in making informed decisions when purchasing bedding. Remember, investing in good bedding is investing in a quality sleep environment, so it's worth selecting carefully.
