Shanghai Home Expo| Sleep Economy: The Next Big Trend in the Home Industry
The sleep economy is indeed becoming a significant
trend in China. According to the latest market research and analysis reports
from Shanghai Home Expo, China's sleep economy
industry showed a notable growth trend in 2024. This trend is primarily driven
by the increasing consumer attention to sleep health issues and the growing
demand for sleep aids. The main aspects are as follows:
1. Huge Market Demand
According to the 2024 World Sleep Report, 400
million people in China suffer from sleep disorders. The 2024 China Resident
Sleep Health White Paper indicates that 64% of the population still has
poor sleep quality, with widespread issues such as difficulty falling asleep,
insufficient sleep duration, and light sleep. Such a large number of people
with sleep disorders have a strong demand for improving sleep quality,
providing a vast market space for the development of the sleep economy.
2. Rapid Industry Growth
A report by iiMedia Research titled 2024 China
Sleep Health Product Innovation and Consumer Insights shows that China's
sleep economy market size has grown from 261.63 billion yuan in 2016 to 495.58
billion yuan in 2023. It is projected to reach 658.68 billion yuan by 2027 and
may exceed one trillion yuan by 2030. The sleep economy is expanding rapidly
across various sectors, including home furnishings, pharmaceuticals, and
technology, as well as in traditional sleep-related home products, emerging
sleep product research and promotion, and the development of sleep aids,
medications, and beverages.
3. Increased Government
Support
The national 14th Five-Year Plan emphasizes
"promoting the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine
(TCM) and advancing the construction of a Healthy China, prioritizing the
protection of people's health in strategic development." This highlights
the importance of TCM in promoting social and economic harmony. At the 2025
National Health and Wellness Conference, it was proposed that every city should
have at least one hospital offering psychological and sleep clinics. Additionally,
the Healthy China Action Plan (2019-2030) includes sleep health as a key
action indicator to promote disease prevention among the entire population.
4. Changing Consumer Mindsets
With the improvement of living standards and enhanced
health awareness, an increasing number of consumers are willing to invest more
time and money in improving sleep quality. The consumption mindset towards
sleep products and services has gradually shifted from "nice to have"
to "essential," with greater emphasis on the quality, functionality,
and personalization of sleep products.
In summary, China's sleep economy industry is not only
experiencing rapid market growth but also showing clear development trends in
terms of consumer demographics and market demand. This indicates that the
industry has tremendous potential and room for development.
