But the days are long, dust, stains climbed on the sofa, and then the good value will be offline. Don't worry! Today we will see how to maintain the sofa clean. And if you want to know more, welcome to Shanghai International Home Expo.

Leather sofa

Core features: natural leather needs accurate care according to the tanning process, to avoid “over-maintenance” or “inadequate care”.

1. Material breakdown maintenance guide

Aniline leather (full green leather):

Characteristics: uncoated, retaining the original texture, soft to the touch but easy to absorb color, afraid of water stains

Cleaning points:

Daily only use dry deerskin towel along the grain lightly brush floating dust, stains dipped in a small amount of milk (fat content can dissolve light stains) light pressure rubbing

Strictly prohibit the use of any chemical cleaners, monthly with aniline leather special nourishing cream (containing natural beeswax ingredients) in a circular manner, thinly coated, after 10 minutes of rest with a soft cloth polishing

Semi-aniline leather:

Characteristics: Slightly transparent coating, improved resistance to stains but still needs to be treated gently.

Deep Cleaning:

Use a neutral foam cleaner with a pH value of 6-7, spray on a soft cloth (avoiding direct contact with the leather) and wipe gently in circular motions in different areas (1 square meter per unit).

Immediately after cleaning with a dry cotton cloth pressed to absorb moisture, to avoid water marks penetration

Coated leather (imitation leather/PU leather)

Characteristics: artificial coating cover, wear-resistant but easy to crack aging

Care tips:

Daily can be diluted 10 times the mild detergent water (such as baby shower gel) wipe, quarterly with leather renovator (first in the bottom of the hidden test) evenly sprayed to restore luster

Avoid contact with sharp objects, if there are small cracks, you can apply a small amount of Lanolin moisturizing relief

2. Full-scene cleaning practical program

Pre-dusting: use a sponge dipped in leather dry cleaning powder (including adsorbent powder) to pat the surface of the sofa, and then vacuum cleaner after 5 minutes of standing.

Partition cleaning: the sofa is divided into armrests, seat surface, backrest and other areas, area by area with a slightly wet soft cloth + foam cleaner wiping in a circle (every wipe after an area immediately with a dry cloth to dry)

Residue: Repeat wiping 2-3 times in the same direction with a wet towel wrung until it does not drip to ensure that there is no detergent residue.

Nourish the sealing layer: after drying, apply care oil containing vitamin E (such as mink oil), and polish with a suede cloth in the shape of a “Z” to enhance the flexibility of leather

3. Four seasons maintenance focus

Spring moisture: Weekly dehumidifier against the bottom of the sofa to absorb moisture (30 minutes each time), the gap placed in the activated charcoal packets (replaced every 2 months)

After the rain, open the window in time to avoid the leather in a humid environment for a long time leading to mildew

Summer sunscreen: Sofa by the window to add anti-ultraviolet curtains (UV blocking rate > 90%), daily 13:00-16:00 curtains to block the strong light

Avoid air-conditioning blowing directly on the sofa to prevent the leather from drying and cracking due to the large temperature difference.

Fall hydration: The first maintenance after the fall can increase the amount of care oil by 20%, focusing on the armrests, seat edge and other high-frequency contact parts of the coating. Use a hygrometer to monitor the environmental humidity (keep 40%-60%), turn on the humidifier when it is dry

Crack prevention in winter: Away from the heater, floor heating and other heat sources (at least keep 50cm distance), to avoid rapid loss of leather moisture

Every two weeks with a warm wet towel (water temperature of about 30 ℃) gently wipe the surface to prevent static electricity adsorption of dust

Fabric sofa

Core features: different fabric fiber care differences are significant, we need to avoid “improper cleaning leads to shrinkage / fading”.

1. Fabric material care guide

Cotton and linen fabrics:

Characteristics: natural and breathable, but easy to wrinkle and easy to shrink, dark-colored models easy to lose color

Cleaning points:

Removable models with cold water gentle machine wash (wash separately, avoid friction), do not bleach, natural drying avoid direct sunlight

For non-removable models, spray with dry cleaning agent (e.g. cornstarch-based detergent), pat lightly and vacuum clean.

Polyester/chemical fiber fabric:

Characteristics: wear-resistant and wrinkle-resistant but poor moisture absorption, prone to static electricity

Deep Cleaning:

Use low-foam cleaner (containing anti-static ingredients) for fabrics, and use soft brush + sponge to clean in a circular motion (avoid vigorous scrubbing to cause pilling).

After cleaning, use a hair dryer with low temperature to blow dry the seams to prevent moisture and bacteria.

Wool/suede fabric:

Characteristics: soft and warm, but easy to hide dirt, easy to felt in contact with water

Special Care:

Do not wash in water! Brush weekly with a soft-bristled dusting brush in the direction of the pile, and use a special pile cleaner foam to absorb stains with light pressure.

Iron regularly with a steam iron (at a distance of 20cm) at a low temperature to restore the fluffiness of the fleece.

2. Full cycle cleaning program

Pretreatment: first with a sticky roller to remove the surface hair, and then use a soft brush to lightly brush the floating dust

Cleaning agent preparation: 1:50 ratio of diluted neutral fabric cleaner (such as blue moon fabric special models), pour into the spray bottle

Partition cleaning: start from the top of the backrest of the sofa, spray the cleaner from top to bottom, and wipe with a slightly wet sponge in a circle (no more than 0.5 square meters per area)

Thorough rinsing: wipe repeatedly with water wipes until there is no foam residue, and repeat the operation 2 times for stubborn stains.

Drying and shaping: open the door and windows for ventilation after cleaning, use fan to blow against the sofa (to accelerate drying), and place the cushion on the other side to avoid deformation.

3. Extend the life of the key details

Anti-abrasion tips: Turn the cushion over and change the direction every 2 months to avoid deformation of a single area under long-term pressure. Place anti-slip pads (e.g. silicone particles) on high-frequency seat and back parts to reduce friction loss.

Detailed care focus: When you find threads, use small scissors to trim them flat (no hand pulling, to prevent drawing). Non-removable sofa annual steam cleaning machine (temperature ≤ 100 ℃) sterilization mites, focus on the seams and the bottom of the treatment

Wooden sofa

1. Wood species breakdown maintenance guide

Hardwood (oak / walnut):

Characteristics: high density, rough texture, scratch-resistant but afraid of drying and cracking

Maintenance points:

Apply natural wood wax (e.g. beeswax + mineral oil mix) in a “well” shape every quarter, with a dosage of about 5g per square meter (to avoid over-thickness and clogging of pores).

Place a small humidifier next to the sofa when it is dry in winter (keep the humidity at 50%-60%)

Cork (pine/fir):

Characteristics: soft texture, containing natural turpentine, easy to scratch but comes with anti-insect properties

Cleaning Notes:

Use neutral soapy water (1:20 dilution) to gently rub the stains, and immediately dry with a dry cloth (pine wood is easily discolored by water).

Avoid placing heavy objects, regularly check the corners for damage, and use wood repair crayon to make up the color in time.

Composite wood panel (multi-layer board / veneer wood):

Characteristics: strong stability but afraid of flooding, easy to peel the surface veneer

Maintenance focus:

Daily wipe with a slightly wet fiber cloth, prohibited the use of steel wire balls or rough rags

Spray evenly with wood maintenance oil spray (e.g. orange oil) every year, and polish with a soft cloth to enhance the gloss.

2. Environmental management and cleaning practices

Dusting: use electrostatic duster to lightly sweep the surface (to avoid dust particles scratching the wood grain)

Stain removal: stains with a wrung wet towel dipped in neutral detergent (such as mild dishwashing liquid) gently wipe, along the direction of the wood grain operations

Drying: dry with a dry cotton cloth immediately after cleaning, the crevices can be used to blow dry the hair dryer cold air stalls

Special problems to deal with:

Ironing marks repair: due to the high temperature of the cups left white marks, you can pad a wet towel in the traces of the low-temperature stall iron (cloth ironing) repeatedly ironed until the traces of fading

Mildew treatment: use soft cloth dipped in 2% white vinegar water to wipe the mildew spots, ventilate and dry and then apply wood wax oil (to form a protective layer)

3. Periodic care plan

For the first 3 months after purchase, check the state of the wood once a month (focus on whether the mortise and tenon joints are loose and whether there are small cracks on the surface)

Increase the frequency of maintenance to every 2 months in the first year to help the wood adapt to the humidity of the environment

Seasonal maintenance points:

Spring: before the rainy season, apply a thin coat of moisture-proof wax (containing paraffin), focusing on the bottom and back.

Fall: Wipe the surface with walnut oil (natural plant oil) during the seasonal change to replenish the wood's oils and prevent drying and cracking.

Extreme weather in winter and summer: when the air conditioner is turned on in summer, place moisture-proof mats at the bottom of the sofa; in winter, during the heating period, stay away from heat sources and increase the humidity of the air.

Follow the principle of “prevention > cleaning”, regular maintenance can make the sofa life extension of 3-5 years, so that each piece of furniture has become a lasting scenery at home!
