As the trend barometer of the global home furnishing industry, CIFF Shanghai has always paid close attention to how global design forces respond to contemporary living issues. On May 21, IKEA China held a media experience event themed "Wonderfully Fun Party" at the Hangzhou IKEA store, officially launching its iconic experimental series PS 2026 (Product Series 2026). With the core proposition of "Clever Ideas Make Home Wonderfully Fun", this series uses creative dynamic design to directly address the pain points of contemporary small-space living, providing a brand-new solution for the infinite possibilities within limited spaces.

Immersive Experience: Making Design Concepts Tangible

This event broke away from the rigid format of traditional product launches. Through fun interactions such as rotating display installations and the "Upside Down" immersive space, it materialized the core concept of "dynamic design". The audience could not only view the products up close but also operate and experience the transformation and combination process of the furniture firsthand, intuitively feeling the design ingenuity of "one piece, multiple functions". The entire event venue was filled with a relaxed and lively atmosphere, perfectly matching the series' positioning of "fun and practical".

As IKEA's most experimental product line, the PS series has been committed to pushing the boundaries of Scandinavian design and exploring more possibilities for home products since its inception. The PS 2026 series was led by Johan Lagerström, Global Deputy Head of Design at IKEA of Sweden, and co-created by designers Mikael Axelsson and Friso Wiersma, crafted over two years.

Dynamic Design: Bringing Limited Spaces to Life

Addressing the common pain points faced by contemporary urban young people cramped small spaces, single functions, and difficulty adapting to changing life scenarios the PS 2026 series completely subverts the static design logic of traditional furniture, taking "movable, transformable, combinable" as its core highlights. Each product is no longer an isolated static object but a "space magician" that can flexibly transform according to the resident's needs.

Several representative products displayed on site were eye-catching: the inflatable lounge chair folds down to the size of a backpack and unfolds into a comfortable resting corner, perfectly adapting to the flexible needs of renters and small households; modular woven cabinets can be freely combined into bookshelves, side cabinets, entrance partitions or even temporary workstations, easily handling multiple scenarios such as storage, display and space division; the height-adjustable coffee table can be used as a daily coffee table or raised with one click to become a dining table or desk, achieving "one piece, multiple uses". These products strike a delicate balance between creative expression and practical value, greatly expanding the functional boundaries of furniture with minimalist design language.

Johan Lagerström said at the scene: "IKEA has always adhered to the principle of 'democratic design' and believes that good design should belong to everyone. Every product in the PS 2026 series has undergone repeated proportional refinements and functional tests, just to make practical and interesting design applicable to various spaces, especially those 'small yet vibrant living environments'."

Cross-Cultural Dialogue: Global Design Empowers Local Living

This event also specially invited teacher and student representatives from the China Academy of Art Nantes Joint School of Design. Starting from China's local residential culture and the lifestyle of young people, they had in-depth dialogues with IKEA's design team, jointly exploring the symbiotic relationship between functionality and fun in home design, and providing valuable perspectives for integrating localized thinking into global design.

IKEA stated that it hopes to convey a relaxed, free and creative attitude towards life through the PS 2026 series and this event. In today's increasingly tight urban spaces, the size of a home should not be a barrier to the joy of living. Good design can help people break the constraints of space and create infinite life possibilities within a limited area.
