Strengthening the Foundation of China–Malaysia Industry Collaboration

During the visit, the delegation met with key organizations including the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) andKSFA, and conducted site visits to representative enterprises and projects. These engagements provided deeper insight into the local market environment and industrial structure, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation. The roadshow gathered leaders from the MCA, industry associations, and business representatives, drawing broad attention from the home furnishing sectors of both countries. Participants widely agreed that, amid deepening regional economic cooperation, China–Malaysia collaboration in the home furnishing industry is entering a new stage of development.

From Manufacturing to Design: A New Phase of Value Upgrading for China’s Home Furnishing Industry

In his remarks, Tang Haojie, General Manager of Shanghai Red Star Macalline Exhibition Services Co., Ltd., stated that CIFF has established a “dual-city” structure between Guangzhou and Shanghai: Guangzhou focuses on international trade and sourcing, while Shanghai emphasizes design innovation. Together, they are driving the upgrade of China’s home furnishing industry from manufacturing strength to design leadership.

He noted that Chinese original design has gained increasing prominence on the global stage in recent years. Moving beyond simply “going global,” Chinese brands are also “bringing back” global insights, gradually building stronger international influence. Looking ahead, CIFF Shanghai will continue to reinforce its design-driven positioning and develop a more globally influential industry platform.

During the event, the organizers formally invited Malaysian industry representatives to attend CIFF Shanghai, to be held in September 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Customized reception and targeted matchmaking services will be provided to further promote two-way exchange and cooperation.

Malaysia: From Market Entry to Regional Hub

Datuk Chong Sin Woon, Secretary-General of MCA, noted that while the momentum of Chinese enterprises going global continues to rise, the real challenge lies not in securing orders, but in building robust supply chains, localized services, and long-term operational capabilities. He emphasized that companies must shift from “selling products” to “building systems,” positioning Malaysia as a strategic hub for expanding into ASEAN markets. By strengthening logistics, warehousing, and service networks, businesses can achieve coordinated regional development. “Capturing the market and sustaining it” was a key message he reiterated. He added that future competition will not be defined by speed, but by the ability to establish resilient localized operations and sustainable value chains.

Deepening Collaboration to Build a China–Malaysia Value Chain

From an industry perspective, Alfred Yow Song Vooi, President of KSFA, shared insights into the development path and current challenges of Malaysia’s home furnishing sector. He noted that amid global market shifts, reliance on cost advantages alone is no longer sufficient for long-term competitiveness. Instead, the industry must refocus on core strengths such as design, materials, and craftsmanship. He further highlighted that the rapid growth of Chinese enterprises has created new opportunities for collaboration. Through complementary strengths, both sides can achieve coordinated development in international markets. During the event, CIFF Shanghai and KSFA officially established a strategic partnership, marking a new phase of closer collaboration between China and Malaysia’s home furnishing industries.

Platform Upgrade: From Trade Fair to Industry Ecosystem Connector

Yuan Ai, Commercial Director of Shanghai Red Star Macalline Exhibition Services Co., Ltd., provided a comprehensive overview of CIFF Shanghai’s development and future plans. She noted that the exhibition is evolving from a traditional trade platform into an integrated platform combining brand showcasing and industry ecosystem development. Through curated design zones, themed exhibitions, and cross-sector resource integration, CIFF is building a more diversified industry ecosystem. According to her, the 58th CIFF Shanghai in 2026 will be themed “Design · Digital Intelligence · Sustainability.” Centered on design leadership, premium launches, and dual circulation, the exhibition aims to drive comprehensive upgrades in design innovation, supply chain integration, and international expansion—further strengthening its role as a key global platform for the home furnishing industry.

Technology-Driven Innovation: Advancing Toward a Smart Future

During the brand presentation session, Han Bin, General Manager of Shenzhen Shushi Home Technology., introduced the company’s “AI + Deep Sleep” solution. By integrating medical research with intelligent algorithms, the company has developed products such as smart mattresses and pillows capable of real-time sleep monitoring and adaptive adjustment. These products support multi-platform ecosystem integration and, through continuous data accumulation and algorithm optimization, deliver long-term health management value—highlighting the industry’s transition toward a “technology + service” model.

Building on its platform capabilities to expand global reach, the Malaysia stop of the initiative marked a key step in CIFF Shanghai’s international strategy, while also providing an efficient platform for business matchmaking and in-depth exchange between China and Malaysia’s home furnishing industries. Against the backdrop of global supply chain restructuring and accelerating regional cooperation, the shift from “product export” to “brand globalization” and “ecosystem expansion” has become a shared industry direction. Looking ahead, CIFF Shanghai will continue to leverage its platform advantages to connect global resources and support Chinese home furnishing brands in expanding into broader international markets.

On March 25, the CIFF Shanghai delegation further engaged with local industry stakeholders through closed-door discussions with the KSFA. Focused on key topics such as supply-demand alignment, cooperation mechanisms, and logistics and warehousing systems, both sides conducted in-depth and targeted exchanges, advancing collaboration from initial dialogue to concrete engagement.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited ParkCity Group’s flagship international community project, gaining insights into the local real estate sector as well as related supply chains and delivery standards in the home furnishing and interior industry. Site visits to fully furnished show units and project delivery scenarios provided a deeper understanding of regional market needs in terms of product standards, spatial solutions, and bulk procurement.

The delegation also visited the showroom of SLIDER DESIGN SDN BHD, where discussions with Director Jeff Lim explored pathways for Chinese home furnishing brands to enter Malaysia’s mid-to-high-end interior market through its retail network. Through this extended engagement—from exhibition platforms to real project scenarios—the delegation, together with local industry experts, identified more practical and actionable approaches for Chinese enterprises to access overseas project channels.

The Malaysia stop highlights a clear shift in the globalization of China’s home furnishing industry—from establishing connections to strengthening on-the-ground execution. Whether through strategic alignment between platforms or deeper engagement with project channels and localized systems, a clear signal is emerging: future global competition will no longer be defined by isolated breakthroughs, but by integrated capabilities and sustained operational strength.
